Some naturally are more extreme than others – while some are growing special food to survive an economic meltdown, others are preparing for terrorism and nuclear war. Despite their vast differences, they all meet on one common ground: One can never be too prepared for what’s around the corner. “I’m not getting ready only for one event,” says Jiri Schmied, founder of the Facebook preppers’ page, Prezijeme (We Will Survive). “Terrorism, war or an economical collapse are all possible, and no matter which one happens first, you need to be able to eat, drink and stay alive.” Jiri, 23, from Hradec Kralove, has stacked up cans of food and gallons of water around his house, and he meets online with other preppers to study the best foods to grow in his garden.
