How Would You Kit Out a Zombie Survival Vehicle? Donal O’Keeffe Shows Us What It Takes to ‘Live, Drive and Survive’
You and your gang of rag-tag survivors are about to make a break for the school bus across the street. You’ve got to be quick on your feet, so you won’t be able to take much. Thankfully, this Zombie Survival Kit from ThinkGeekwill fit perfectly in your bug-out bag. Okay, so the zombie apocalypse (probably) won’t be happening any time soon, but there’s nothing wrong with being prepared. The main selling point of Zombie Survival Kit has to be the SOG Tactical Tomahawk – One and a half pounds of 420 stainless steel zombie ‘persuasion,’ according to the product page. It’s over 15 inches long with an eight inch blade and fiberglass-reinforced nylon handle. Every survival kit needs a multi-purpose tool and this is yours. Obviously, the kit is full of all sorts of other goodies like Zombie Jerky, a collapsible shot glass, dissolving hand soap sheets, the CRKT Eat’N Tool, a survival kit in a sardine can and of course, energy drinks. To top it all off ThinkGeek throws in a length of 550 lb paracord (just in case!) and wraps the whole package in a nylon bag reading, “Zombie Survival Kit / In Case of Outbreak: Open Bag.” Of course, everything costs money and the same holds true for the Zombie Survival Kit, it will set you back about $80.

Being prepared for a zombie apocalypse helps you prepare for other emergencies. Gannett file photo Written by Anna Jeffries and Emily Maddern Newark (Ohio) Advocate Boy Scouts ADVERTISEMENT You wake up and head to the window to take in the beautiful calm that is Sunday morning. That’s when you notice thick, black smoke billowing from the western city. As you turn on the news to find out what’s happening, a breaking news alert flashes across the screen. The report says there have been violent riots across the city with heavy casualties. But what’s peculiar about the report is the deceased are coming back to life and attacking the living, and maybe even eating them. Then it hits you. The Zombie Apocalypse is here. OK, so it’s not really the zombie apocalypse.

Prepare a Zombie Survival Kit
(Credit: ThinkGeek) You have options when it comes to zombie-slaying weapons. Loud guns may attract unwanted zombie attention. Baseballs bats can require several swats to work. Chainsaws need gas. A tactical ax, however, is portable and effective. ThinkGeek’s Zombie Survival Kit features a stainless-steel SOG Tactical Tomahawk, suitable for close combat or hurling from a distance at the undead. Zombie crime scene tape helps you alert other survivors to danger zones. Related stories Safe House: Zombie-proof and stylish to boot Nosh on some Zombie Jerky and chase it with a Zombie Blast Energy Shot. Use your compact CRKT Eat’N Tool spork. Most importantly, the kit comes with a collapsible shot glass. This gives you the option to just drink away your zombie apocalypse sorrows.

Zombie Survival Kit features real tactical ax and a spork
I wanted to create naratives and characters within the details. I wanted to create a series of renders that people could spend hours looking at, to see something new with every fresh viewing. Each one was rendered and created for large format printing. Plus I felt the concept of protection from the outside world and our attempt to cling onto some form of reality was fascinating. These themes lead me to the zombie survival vehicles. Match this with me being a huge George Romero fan and you can the see where the concept spawned. The tiny contents inside the vehicles were modeled and textured by the designer, aside from a few of the more complex items (i.e. guns), which he purchased. Most of the actual cars were also modeled by O’Keeffe.

Your last hope: The $24,000 zombie survival kit
kit may prolong your natural life. The guns aren’t included. (Credit: OpticsPlanet) My preparations for the coming zombie apocalypse came down to one thing: a baseball bat. But this kit from OpticsPlanet makes me think I’m being terribly naive. The Z.E.R.O. (Zombie Extermination, Research, and Operations) Zombie Kit is the mother of all undead survival kits. For a whopping $24,000 you get oodles of tools, protective gear, cases, and weapons accessories. The kit is skimpy on weapons themselves (the company says ammo will run out during the war, so you only get two knives) but tries to make up for it with gunsmithing and laboratory equipment. Related stories Zombie shooting targets ooze gore on impact I really don’t think we’ll have time to use the pipette shaker and compound microscope while unloading on zombie foot soldiers, but OpticsPlanet thinks we should be searching for a cure to zombie disease while fighting.
