Keep Calm and Carrion: Your Hot Pockets Recall Survival Kit

From the U.S. Department of Agriculture: Rancho Feeding Corporation, a Petaluma, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 8,742,700 pounds, because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection. Thus, the products are adulterated, because they are unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. According to the USDA, you cant even trust a 30 lb. box of beef lips, so if that was your fallback for Hot Pockets, you are out of luck. If you still crave a Hot Pocket after all of that, though, have no fear, because weve got options. Here is your Hot Pockets Recall Survival Kit:

The near-900MB size may require you to shift some other apps or music from your iPad, but if youre a budding animator with a spare $35, you wont regret it. Its also worth mentioning that youll need more than 900MB to install the app when I tried to download it, with 1.6GB spare on my iPad, it said there was insufficient room. It seems likely that during the installation process, it needs to download an additional zipped file, decompress all of the individual book page files and animation files, and move them all into place, which requires more space. At least, thats what Dave Addey, Managing Director at Agant, hypothesizes. The app may be huge, but its all self-contained no Internet is required to access the animations and videos. We were determined to keep everything onboard in the app, so that you can use it instantly and responsively wherever you may be, regardless of network conditions, says Addey. The app is a http://lightningtracker.net professional tool for working animators, so it needs to work no matter what the network conditions are in the studio, he continues. Compressing everything down took a good chunk of the projects development time, but led to a much-reduced file size, without affecting the apps quality. Addey says that one of the biggest challenges was preparing the animations for in-app use there are 106 animated examples in total, which were originally created for DVD where file size isnt so much of an issue.

Good Samaritans, including my cousin walked up and down the highway handing out food and water to stranded motorists. That incident started me thinking, what should a person have in his or her vehicle in cases like these or God forbid if a rollover into a ditch occurred and help was slow to arrive. My sons are relatively new drivers and they dont carry anything other than a cell phone for cases of emergency. Due to my long commute I always keep a bottle of water and a jar of peanuts in the car. Also, inside the trunk is a pair of flat shoes, a blanket and an ice scraper. If I were stuck on the highway for hours like the folks in Atlanta were, and there wasnt a Wawa or 7-11 to pull into, what could I eat. No longer having small children there wouldnt even be a FrenchFry under the seat so I decided to stop at Dollar Tree to make a Storm Survival Sack for my sons. I chose the following items for the Storm Survival Sack which can be replenished as needed, items that will not spoil or go bad if not used for several weeks or even months: Gallon Water Rules of Conduct 1 The comments are intended to provide insight, community conversation and civil debate. 2 You are solely responsible for the comments you make on this site. One of the more recent terms I’ve seen is the “Get Out Of Dodge” (GOOD) Bag. As I read more and more about the purpose of such bags – and the potential circumstances leading to their use – I am constantly adjusting what I feel I need to load into mine. So, this week’s review is a simple “go over” of the basic contents and then some things I’ve been recently led to think about that are particular to different circumstances. For all of the law enforcement professionals who read this, remember: civilians who are evacuating from a given crisis area may be carrying any or all of these items or more. Never take for granted that they are only carrying survival necessities. I used to endorse the idea of getting a bag that would hold what you needed and nothing bigger. Why? Because I was more concerned about not exhausting yourself while having the basics. Now, after reading and studying more, I’ve changed my outlook: get the absolute biggest pack you can manage – because you will fill it and still have to leave things out that you’d rather not. Also, the Bugout Bag shouldn’t be seen as the end-all be-all answer to escaping your situation. Your G.O.O.D.

Water In a survival situation water quickly becomes the most precious commodity, Survival Cache writes. 2. Food For a three-day bugout bag, backpack meals and energy bars can be sufficient, Survival Cache writes. Backpack meals are freeze-dried meals that you add boiling water to eat. The site adds that a longer-term solution will be needed in a catastrophe that lasts for an extensive amount of time. 3. Clothing The clothes in your bag should be similar to what you would pack for a weekend backpacking trip, and should include a pair of sturdy boots or shoes. 4. Shelter A tent or tarp; a ground tarp; and some type of bedroll are the key elements, Survival Cache writes. 5. First-aid kit Survival Cache recommends that you build your own first-aid kit instead of a prepackaged first-aid kit. 6.

Our communities coped remarkably well and we were lucky that damage levels were relatively low. However, it is a reminder that disasters can strike at any time and had the outcome been different, people may have had to call upon their emergency supplies, he says. Mr Lowe says its important that households create a plan to look after themselves and their loved ones for at least three days or more. This should include such things as where to meet up after a disaster, where to store emergency survival items and what to include in a get-away kit. Its not just earthquakes, Mr Lowe says. In this Region, like many places in New Zealand, we are susceptible to a range of hazards including flooding, tsunami and volcanic activity.

While the SURVIVE IT kit was the priciest, at $347.44. Well see how well they follow what Civil Defence recommends should be in a getaway kit. Well compare the radios and the lighting supplies, and get an expert to assess the first-aid kits. Well also compare the food and water and get our Product Check Family to taste-test the food. So how much of whats on the Civil Defence checklist were found in our 4 survival kits? For starters, all 4 had torches and radios with batteries, but as for spare batteries, the SURVIVE IT kit had none. Civil Defence also recommends getaway kits have emergency water, but two of our four only had water purification tablets. As for toiletries, none of the 4 supplied soap, and only 2 had tissues for toilet paper. One of the most important items in any survival kit is a battery-powered radio, and whilst all four kits supplied one, we found the SURVIVE IT radio had the clearest reception.

Rescue Essentials Announces the launch of ICE (In Case of Emergency) Buckets & Bags

Having an emergency kit with important supplies is essential in the hours and days following a disaster.Natural Disasters Examiner Disaster can strike anywhere at any time. Arguably the most important thing you can do to prepare you and your family is to create an emergency supply kit with the essentials needed to survive. Disasters – natural or manmade – are not something we like to think about but they do occur. Mother Nature can bring her wrath in the deadly form of earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes. She also can shut down entire cities with snowstorms that while not as dangerous, still need to be prepared for. As we learned tragically on September 11, 2001, man himself can cause a disaster and those threats have not gone away. No matter the cause of a disaster, you need to be prepared to survive without outside help for at least three days. You cannot rely on first responders being able to assist you right away, particularly with a large scale event. Every family should have an emergency supply kit to help them through a disaster. The list below provides a starting point for you to create your own. Basic emergency supplies – All kits should have these items Water – One gallon per person per day with enough to last three to seven days. Food – Enough non-perishable foods to last at least three to seven days.

Fallen Televangelist Jim Bakker Now Hawking Apocalyptic Survivalist Gear On The Web

How about a great big Jim Bakker food bucket. The disgraced televangelist is now hawking survivalist gear and books about the apocalypse on his website almost 20 years after he was released from prison on a conviction of bilking followers out of millions of dollars. Back from the evangelical wilderness, Bakker now tapes a daily TV show from the rolling Ozarks of Missouri and uses his website to pitch what he calls “love gifts,” essentially a variety of odd products including “Tiffany style” jewelery, fuel-less generators and buckets of dried food. For just $500, you can get “Jim’s All American 4 Star Vegetable” buckets. A cool two grand will get you the “Jerry Jones Special,” which promises “over 3,300 servings of food and enough fuel to cook 480 meals.” Preparing for the end of the world is nothing new for Bakker, who served almost five years in prison following his conviction for the $158 million rip off of his followers. “Pastor Jim,” as he calls himself now, published a book in 1998 called Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse , which he sells on his site for $20 and proclaims: “This is not just a book of prophecy, it is a book of survival.” His longtime wife Tammy Faye having divorced him while he was in prison, Bakker married his new wife, Lori, the same year he published the book. She now works beside him as a pastor at the Jim Bakker Show and offers her own line of products like the “Lori’s Little Lambs Chrystal Necklace” for $35.

Survival Gear: Grate Chef Firestarter Packets

Cold, wet, and windy conditions make fire building a very difficult chore. Use this time to stock up on lighters, matches, and various forms of tinder and fuel to add to your emergency equipment. When it comes to home fuel, its hard to beat the good old cotton ball soaked in petroleum jelly, but Grate Chef FireStarter packets make a great back up. Available in Europe for years, fire staring packs are a more recent introduction to the shelves of many American grocery and home improvement stores. Theyre often found next to the charcoal and lighter fluid, or the grilling equipment. The non-toxic contents (which include aliphatic hydrocarbons, urea-based resins, and paraffin) are stored inside small waterproof packets, each measuring 2.5 x 2.5 inches and weighing about of an ounce. When youre ready to light your fire, grill, stove, or hearth, just apply an open flame to the corner of one packet, and it will begen to burn and ignite the paraffin. Each FireStarter pack burns for roughly 9 to 10 minutes, even in bad weather. With the right fire-building materials in place (like good tinder, kindling, and firewood), this 10-minute window of flame should be more than enough time to get a fire going, even with damp materials. A package of Grate Chef FireStarters contains 6 separate packs and retails for about $3. Compared to similar products, I found the Grate Chef a little difficult to light, but once lit it produced a flame almost a foot tall. I wasnt able to light the Grate Chef packets with ferrocerium rods, but an open flame from a match or lighter worked just fine.

Sonia with survivalist Tim amid his vast stores.

It was just a matter of time before production television took note of the passion and business know-how of Ralston. The show Doomsday Preppers wanted to feature Ralston. National Geographic Channel called and wanted me to be on the show. I asked Can I bring my shovel? mused Ralston of his signature Crovel. His segment on the show centered on firearms training. The episode was a hit. We became their number one rated show and its still their most replayed episode. Ralston thinks his onscreen persona really resonates with an audience because hes different. I think its my ability to talk to other people and I dont look like your typical survivalist, he said. Ralston has also appeared on the cover of American Survival Guide Magazine. Your Family’s 72 Hour Kit

LAN World Announces the New Standard in 72 Hour Survival Kits Complete with Firearm

A deck of cards can make the day go by. A small amount of first aid supplies should be packed. 6. If you are die hard boy scouts, you can even get crank handle flashlights, toilets made from 5 gallon buckets with a toilet seat and biohazard bags so that you have a bathroom and lanterns that run on salt water. 7. For paperwork you should have a page for each family member that has all of the pertinent information such as age, height, weight, hair/eye color etc… It should list their medical needs and history such as surgeries or illnesses. It should list any special needs. It should also list whether or not they are an organ donor in case the worst should happen. To be fully prepared a family should have one kit in the home and one in each vehicle. These kits should be clearly marked and should be checked every 90 days for expired foods or medicines, outdated medical information or missing items.

What should you have in a 72-hour emergency kit?

Photo, taken 2013-05-22 09:47:58

Repair kit and tools- Depending on the nature of your kit, equipment, and other concerns, there may be obvious choices for repair items. One such universal piece of equipment is duct tape. Another is some type of rope or cordage. This doesnt mean to necessarily use a full roll of duct tape or have 500 feet of rope, but a partial roll can provide important repair capability for multiple things. A good sewing kit can be included (with sturdy needles, not the flimsy ones found in complementary kits). Definitely consider a multi-tool or two. While not optimized tools, they are in a form factor that allows many tools to be included simultaneously Nutrition (extra food)- Food items for three days can be a decent load. The subject of storable food for emergency is the subject of an upcoming article. Hydration (extra water)- Water is heavy, but an absolute necessity for emergency gear.

Put Together A Winter Car Emergency Kit

Emergency kit could help stranded drivers

Photo by ex_magician . Compared to creating a home winter emergency kit, a car emergency kit has two principle differences. First, you’re severely bug out bag limited on space compared to home preparationsand you burn extra gas hauling your loot around. Second, when the power goes out and the party stops at your house, you’re still at home safe and sound. When your car gets stuck in the middle of no where and it’s 12F out, it’s a radically worse situation that could end tragically. Keep Your Car Topped Off and Well Serviced S You can’t avoid every curve ball Old Man Winter will throw at you, but if you run out of gas on a lonely and frozen highway because you’d passed a half dozen gas stations while running on less than a quarter of a tank, you can’t exactly point your finger at anyone. The same goes for having your vehicle tuned up and road-ready. We know it’s not cheap and owning a vehicle can be quite a money sink, but nobody huddled in a broken down car on the side of a deserted road and slowly losing the feeling in their limbs has thought “Man I’m glad I skipped that $200 tune up.” Photo by Tome Lemo . Assess Your Driving Patterns and Plan for the Worst The amount of inclement weather preparation you’ll need to undertake is largely dependent on the kind of driving you do. Winters can be bitter in New York City, but you won’t need the kind of gear in your trunk that someone who commutes on the rural highways of North Dakota would need. When it comes to planning for the worst, you don’t need to plan for the absolute worst mind you, nobody expects you to keep a surgical kit and a guide to field surgery in your car. Most emergency kits fall woefully short though.

“The best thing to do is stay in your car, stay warm and wait for help,” Marett said. He’s the deputy director with Greenville County Emergency Management and said all drivers should have an emergency kit in their cars. “If you have specific needs such as medications that you may need to take on a regular basis, keep some of those with you,” Marett said. A kit can include hand warmers, water, snacks and a blanket. “If you have a child, make sure you have enough diapers and formula,” Marett said. He said that way if you’re stranded, you’ll be safe until you can get home.

Work crews encourage emergency kits for all drivers

Note: While having a three-day supply of food and water is a good start, The Red Cross recommends that you have a three-day supply of food ready to take with you in case you have to evacuate your home, and a two-week supply for your home. Extra Supplies Beyond the basics such as food and water, think about what else your family might need if you could not go to the store for at least three days. Three days doesn’t seem like very long, but if you have an infant who needs diapers or formula, you want to make sure that you don’t run out during that three-day period. You also don’t want your pets to go hungry. Here are a few examples of extra items you might include in your emergency kit: Personal hygiene items Extra cash -Lantern, candles and matches or lighter -Battery-operated radio Important Records You should keep copies of your important records in your emergency kit so that they can be taken with you if you ever have to evacuate your home. The last thing you want to do when disaster strikes is spend hours on the phone tracking down important records.

Essential family emergency kit checklist

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — When wintry weather ripped through the South, some Atlanta drivers got stuck on the roadways for hours on end. In Louisiana that wasn’t the case. Here in Louisiana whether it’s a winter storm, a hurricane evacuation, or any other disaster event a, Mike Steele, spokesman for GOHSEP, said it’s a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car and a game plan in case you get stuck on the road. “There maybe man made emergencies or other weather related emergencies you face so it’s good to have a game plan in place so that your ready to deal with anything,” Steele said. Steele says a basic car to go kit here in Louisiana should include things you would need to make it through extended periods of time in the car. He suggest including things like a flashlight, batteries, roadside flairs, an emergency flag, food, water, emergency road flairs, and medicine. He said you should also know the health of your car, before hitting the road. “A two hour drive can easily turn into a five or six hour drive at times [during a disaster event], so you need to know the working conditions of your car. Make sure you know the fuel situation with your car ahead of time,” Steele explained. Steele recommends drivers should keep your cell phone with you and phone chargers in your car just in case you get stuck. Click here for more info on GOHSEP and creating a game plan click here.
